What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical practice that involves the insertion of very thin needles into specific points on the body. This technique is used to stimulate the flow of Qi (pronounced “chee”), which is considered the vital life force that circulates through pathways called meridians. The fundamental principle behind acupuncture is that by targeting these points, the balance and flow of Qi can be restored, promoting natural healing and well-being. Acupuncture is commonly used to alleviate various types of pain, including chronic pain, migraines, and arthritis. Additionally, it is employed to reduce stress, improve mental health, and support overall wellness.
Modern research suggests that acupuncture may trigger the release of endorphins and influence the nervous system, contributing to its therapeutic effects. Today, acupuncture is widely practiced and respected around the world for its holistic approach to health.
What will my Acupuncture appointment entail?
Our expert acupuncturist will begin with a consultation to review your medical history, assess your current health needs, and discuss your goals. During your first session, which lasts one hour, your practitioner will identify any underlying causes of issues or imbalances, determine the most appropriate treatment, and answer any questions you may have. This thorough, holistic approach, treating each patient as an individual, is fundamental to acupuncture and helps us achieve the best results.
During an acupuncture session, your acupuncturist will insert several very fine needles, which will remain in place for about 15 to 20 minutes. Follow-up sessions are recommended to last a minimum of 45 minutes.
