Bodylogics The Sports Therapy Clinic
Medical Acupuncture at Bodylogics
Medical Acupuncture is a unique treatment derived from Ancient Chinese Medicine. It involves small, fine needles being inserted into certain sites of the body for therapeutic and preventative measures. It is considered an alternative medicine but it is widely used on the NHS as a result of its pain relieving abilities. Our therapists at Bodylogics are fully trained and insured to carry out this practice. We always ensure the highest standards of care are adhered to and that patient comfort and well-being is top of our priority.
The Bodylogics Medical Acupuncture service is designed to:
45 Minute Initial Consultation from £45
30 Minute Follow Up from £30
What to expect from your Medical Acupuncture Treatment at Bodylogics
Medical Acupuncture involves the stimulation of sensory nerves under the skin and the muscles of the body. It is this stimulation that helps to relax the muscles and ultimately reduce the levels of pain you may be experiencing. Acupuncture does not hurt. The needles are inserted very gently and only in specific areas. These areas are based on the channels of the meridians that flow through the body. This force is known as Qi (pronounced “chee”). It is commonly believed that when Qi doesn’t flow through the body freely, then the result is illness. Acupuncture can restore the flow of Qi and therefore restore health.
A course of Acupuncture usually creates longer lasting pain relief and has a bigger effect than when sporadic, single treatments occur. It is used to treat chronic tension-type headaches and migraines along with neck pain, joint pain, dental pain and post-operative pain.
It is always advisable to seek advice from your GP, or our own Acupuncture therapists, before commencing any Acupuncture treatment.
What happens when I have my treatment?
To begin, a full medical history and physical examination would be taken in your Initial consultation. This is to ensure that Acupuncture is the correct form of treatment for you. Courses of treatment can often involve up to 10 sessions.
Once treatment begins, needles will be inserted into specific areas of your body which are known as Acupuncture points. The needles are usually a few centimetres long and will always be single use needles (disposed of safely afterwards). You should expect up to 12 needles to be used, sometimes more, in a single session. The needles will be inserted enough to reach the point they need to, depending on where it is located in the body. Once in place, they can be left for as long as 20 minutes. It’s very rare to feel any pain at all, you may not even realise they are there!
After your treatment your therapist will advise on the best course of action to take next and work with you to ensure you get the best results from your treatment. Many people like to combine acupuncture with regular sports massage treatments to maintain their bodies. If you have any questions before, during or after your treatment then we always encourage you to ask. We enjoy explaining and educating our clients on how they can get the most from their bodies.
