Sports Rehabilitation is an aspect of healthcare where the prevention of injury and rehabilitation for clients aims to bring them back to optimum levels of function as well as occupational and sports specific fitness, regardless of age and ability.
My previous experience working within a sporting environment displayed a diverse range of injuries on women, semi to elite, Saracen and England rugby athletes. I had the responsibility to prepare them before/ after training and matches with specific taping, applying protective pads on joints and manual pre mobilisation therapy. I also worked alongside sports therapists responding to acute pitch-side medical emergencies, observed the preparation of concussion assessments from clients that had trauma on the pitch and completed specific rehabilitation programmes to return athletes to contact drills and match play.
Being a Sports rehabilitation specialist within a clinical base enables me to utilise the principles of sport and exercise physiological and pathological processes to prepare clients for training, competition and non-athletes’ general fitness and musculoskeletal manual therapy. Alongside this, we manage chronic symptoms and teach clients to have physical independence with customised rehabilitation which restores, maintains and maximises movement.
