Shoulder Dislocation - Physiotherapy, Osteopathy, Injury Rehabilitation specialists North London, Barnet and Whetstone

Shoulder dislocations are common in those who suffer from falls onto outstretched arms and those who take part in contact sports.  In some instances it can even dislocate in non-traumatic circumstances, usually due to a genetically pre-disposed shallow acetabulum.  Whatever the reason though it is important to consider your available options as some dislocations can be managed well with conservative rehabilitation whilst others require surgical intervention in order to have the best chance of recovery.

    Our Approach to Care

Shoulder Dislocation treatment in Barnet, Whetstone and North London

Shoulder dislocations are a common occurence in the sporting popultation.  Making sure you have a good workin diagnosis is key to successful outcomes here though.  For any dislocation we would always recommend having the shoulder sent for MRI or X-Ray in the first instance.  This will help u to identify any bone fragements that may be in the region and also to identify any other structural damage tha may have occured to the labrum and ligaments.

Once we know what the structural integrity of the joint we can begin to set your rehabilitation programme to get you back to full fitness.

Specialists in shoulder care and pain management

Our treatment techniques will range from use of manual therapy all the way through to exercise programmes to be undertaken at home away from the clinic. It is this holistic approach which sees us get such good results time and time again. For some people, manual therapy will work really well for pain relief but then some will respond better to specific exercises. Whatever the best option is though will be discussed with you as the patient and you will be in full control of what works for you. Sometimes a mixture of all the listed things above are best suited but this is always based on your individual needs.

We encourage you to speak with our therapists on your visit to help decide on what the best treatment is for you.

Treatment your surgeon will be proud of

Here at Bodylogics our clinicians work very closely with a wide range of London’s top orthopaedic surgeons. We liaise with them to find the best pathway for your condition and keep them up to date with your progress. We also share our treatment protocols with them based on your presentation and we will then discuss the best options for you in order to get your shoulder back to its best in the shortest time frame.

Our treatment pathways have been approved by many surgeons over the years and we are proud of these robust and tested interventions which get patients back to their best quick. You can be sure you are in good hands then when you visit us here at Bodylogics.

How can our Physiotherapists, Osteopaths or Sport Massage therapists help you?

In any shoulder dislocation, strengthening the surrounding ligaments and muscles is key to enabling a stable joint. Our treatment will focus on safely loading this joint area to get the stability we hope for. We then use soft tissue and manual therapy to improve the range of motion at the joint area and reduce pain and stiffness.

It is this combined approach which leads us to get such great results and what usually sets us out from the rest.

    What if I need surgery?

Whilst there is a lot of evidence for conservative management, sometimes patients do not make the progress we would have hoped for and surgical intervention is then warranted. Our links with some of the best shoulder surgeons in London mean we are well equipped to refer on and be confident that you are in safe hands with whoever carries out your surgery.

It is rare though for us to get to this stage. If your scans and images suggest conservative care is warranted then we are confident we can get you better without surgery but it is worth noting that nothing is ever guaranteed.
