Book an AppointmentExpert, Evidence-Based Heel Pain Care
If you are taking your first steps in the morning with sharp heel pain, or your feet ache after standing, walking or exercising, you may be suffering from plantar fasciitis. Our specialist physiotherapists and podiatrists assess and treat it across our four North London clinics, helping you reduce pain and get back to doing the things you enjoy.
Heel pain can become frustratingly persistent if left untreated, but most cases respond very well to conservative care. Our evidence-based approach combines hands-on treatment, rehabilitation, acupuncture where appropriate, and expert advice to address the cause of your pain rather than simply masking the symptoms.

What Is Plantar Fasciitis?
Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. It develops when the plantar fascia, a thick band of connective tissue running from your heel to your toes, becomes irritated or overloaded.
The plantar fascia supports the arch of your foot and absorbs the forces created during walking and running. When these forces exceed what the tissue can tolerate, small areas of irritation can develop, leading to pain, particularly around the inside of the heel.
Although often associated with runners, plantar fasciitis can affect anyone. Long periods of standing, changes in activity levels, footwear, reduced ankle mobility and certain foot mechanics can all contribute to the condition.
Common Symptoms
People attending our North London clinics with plantar fasciitis often describe symptoms such as:
- Sharp pain underneath or around the heel
- Pain that is worst during the first few steps after getting out of bed
- Heel pain after sitting for prolonged periods
- Discomfort that eases with gentle movement but returns after longer activity
- Pain after walking, running or standing for extended periods
- Tenderness when pressing on the inside of the heel
How We Treat Plantar Fasciitis
Successful treatment begins with understanding why your plantar fascia has become overloaded. Every assessment includes a detailed examination of your foot, ankle, walking pattern and overall biomechanics so we can identify the factors contributing to your symptoms.
Treatment is tailored to your individual needs and may include hands-on physiotherapy to improve joint mobility and reduce tension through the foot and calf, alongside a progressive exercise programme designed to improve the strength and capacity of the plantar fascia.
Where clinically appropriate, acupuncture may also be incorporated into your treatment programme to help reduce pain and muscle tension, making it easier to move comfortably and progress with your rehabilitation.
Depending on your assessment findings, we may also recommend:
- Personalised stretching and strengthening exercises
- Advice on footwear and activity modification
- Podiatry assessment and orthotic advice where appropriate
- Shockwave Therapy for persistent or long-standing plantar fasciitis
Our aim is not simply to settle your current symptoms but to reduce the likelihood of your heel pain returning in the future.
Your Care May Include
- Detailed foot, ankle & gait assessment
- Hands-on physiotherapy for the foot & calf
- Progressive plantar-fascia loading programme
- Acupuncture where clinically appropriate
- Footwear, orthotic & activity advice
- Shockwave Therapy for persistent cases

Frequently Asked Questions
How Long Does Plantar Fasciitis Take to Recover?
Many people begin to notice improvement within several weeks of starting treatment, although more persistent cases can take a few months to fully settle. Early assessment and a structured rehabilitation programme often help speed up recovery.
Can Physiotherapy Help Plantar Fasciitis?
Yes. Physiotherapy is one of the most effective conservative treatments for plantar fasciitis. By improving strength, flexibility, movement and load tolerance, we help reduce pain while addressing the factors that contributed to the condition.
Is Shockwave Therapy Available?
Yes. For stubborn or long-standing plantar fasciitis that has not responded fully to exercise-based rehabilitation, Shockwave Therapy may be recommended as part of your treatment plan. We will discuss whether it is appropriate during your assessment.
Will I Need Orthotics?
Not everyone does. If your assessment suggests that foot mechanics are contributing to your symptoms, our podiatrists can advise whether orthotics or footwear changes may help support your recovery.
Do I Need a Referral to Be Seen?
No referral is required to book with Bodylogics. You are welcome to arrange an appointment directly at any of our four North London clinics. If you are using private health insurance, your provider may ask for a referral, so it is worth checking with them beforehand.
